We Teach Woodlands Family Institute

Josh Parham, MA, LPC

I had the privilege of growing up in a wonderful family, spending time in small town Mississippi, and The Woodlands, Texas. To me this was the best of both worlds, giving me lots of experiences and opportunities that other kids did not have. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Psychology from The University of Mississippi, I moved to Texas for good. My first job after college was working with clients who had suffered traumatic brain injuries. I was amazed at how these injuries affected the clients’ thinking and behavior. I then went to work for the Texas prison system, providing mental health services to the offender population. There I was exposed to a wide variety of mental health issues, furthering my interest in Psychology. I went back to school and received a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University in 2003. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2005.

Clinical focus and philosophy:

Sometimes people just need someone to talk to. Other times they want to make significant changes with some aspect of their lives. I believe everyone has the power to change and improve their lives, no matter what the situation. As a counselor, it is my job to help people realize their potential and assist them in making the changes they wish to achieve. Using a blend of cognitive behavioral, EMDR, existential, and gestalt techniques, I help clients develop coping skills, identify problematic thinking patterns and behaviors, and improve their emotional well being. My clients are adolescents and adults experiencing a variety of obstacles, including: sadness, anxiety, trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder, low self esteem, anger, substance abuse, relationship issues, communication issues, work and school-related problems, and stress.

Interests:

I enjoy activities with family and friends, reading, watching movies, and sports. I am a huge college football fan, and also enjoy cheering on the Houston Astros. I like spending time outside, including fishing, hiking, biking, and boating. Mostly I enjoy spending time with my wonderful wife and our two dogs.
