Professional Background:
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Counseling from Sam Houston State University. I have worked in all types of programs and facilities before settling down at Woodlands Family Institute, P.C. in 2010. I started my career volunteering at a battered women’s shelter during my undergrad and went on to work for MHMR as a Case Manager/Therapist through graduation. I have worked Inpatient Hospitalization as a Crisis Rehabilitation Counselor as well as in a Partial Hospitalization Program doing assessments, individual, family and group counseling. I also ran DBSA support groups for individuals and families struggling with depression and bipolar.
Clinical Focus:
I enjoy working with adolescents and adults of all backgrounds with a primary focus in clinical issues that include: depression, anxiety, stress management, self-esteem, school and work related problems, relationship issues, anger, communication problems, domestic violence, social skills, and managing everyday life stressors. I thoroughly enjoy helping individuals manage different life transitions such as transitioning from high school to college, college into finding a career, relationships, as well as other difficult transitions that life can bring.
Treatment Philosophy:
I work alongside my clients towards their goals to establish growth and to help them regain control over their lives. I use a variety of different methods that are tailored to meet the needs of my clients with a special emphasis in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. CBT is focused on helping the client become aware of thought distortions which are causing the client psychological distress, as well as the behavior patterns that are reinforcing them, and to help the client make necessary adjustments. I use a collaborative approach where the client and therapist work together to explore challenges. My goal is to develop within my clients a greater self-awareness that will build confidence, self-esteem, and provide them a greater capacity to effectively navigate the complex challenges of life.
Personal:
On my free-time I enjoy spending time with my husband, two fun-loving children and our extended family. I love to travel, go on spontaneous adventures and just about anything outdoors.
