Treatment Philosophy: I value the counselor/client relationship and encourage my clients to actively participate in the treatment process in order to maximize their potential for creating positive growth and change. I strive to take into account the specific needs of each individual client and welcome my client’s input throughout treatment. My approach to counseling is strength based and incorporates a range of therapeutic techniques. Some of these include helping clients identify negative thought and behavior patterns while teaching them healthy coping strategies in order to create balance and provide hope and support as they work through challenging issues.
Professional Background: I received my Master’s Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and completed my graduate internship at a domestic violence shelter. I have also worked with children, adolescents and adults in a variety of clinical settings including partial hospitalization, foster care, group home, and outpatient counseling programs.
Credentials: Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Professional Counselor, and member of the American Psychotherapy Association
Clinical Focus: My clinical focus is primarily individual and family therapy. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) both of which are models used to treat trauma and PTSD. In addition to trauma work, some of the therapeutic issues that I most enjoy working with include depression, anxiety, divorce, grief and loss, communication problems, low self-esteem, relationship/family issues, parenting issues, poor boundaries, and stress management. I like to work with all age groups but particularly enjoy incorporating play and art into my work with children.
Personal Interests: I have a large extended family and am very blessed with many wonderful friendships. Thus, spending quality time with family and friends is very important to me. I love to cook and enjoy experimenting with new recipes. I also enjoy traveling with my husband, attending local concerts, being involved in my community, gardening, reading, exercising, and shopping.
