Philosophy: There are always strengths to build on. That is what is rewarding about working with people. I enjoy being able to help others identify positive aspects of themselves and their relationships and then to assist them in using these strengths to build towards desired goals and changes in their lives. There is no problem too big or too small for therapy. Clients often wonder if it is “ok” to be in therapy. Therapy may be thought of as only a form support. When looking at desired personal change, positive growth and an increase—no matter how small—in the client’s life satisfaction is what matters.
Therapy is personal and can result in a profound experience when there is commitment to change. This change, however, is often not possible without the feedback of an objective individual: the therapist may be seen as a tool, helping to facilitate this change without taking away the client’s own experiences. For some clients, this means learning new skills and gaining personal insights; for others, this may mean having someone who is able to listen objectively and provide meaningful feedback.
A therapeutic relationship should provide support and objectivity, based on a deep foundation of professional experience and education. Growth, personal insight, and improved quality of life are the expected outcomes.
