| How did you end up specializing in Eating
Disorders? I began working with eating
disorders in my first professional position just after graduate
school. At that time, I was working for a community mental health
agency. When a woman with an eating disorder was seeking
treatment, I was the only member of the professional staff to
volunteer. Up until that time, I had not worked with anyone who's
life was being controlled by an eating disorder, so I decided to let
her teach me how to work with her. We worked together and had a
very successful course of treatment. Word spread, and I started
to be known within the agency as someone who worked effectively with
eating disorders.
What
is
your Treatment Philosophy?I have continued to work with eating disorders throughout my career. Much of this experience was obtained in the ten years I worked in a University Counseling Center, where I saw more clients with eating disorders than any other problem. Now, with over 25 years of professional experience, I'm specializing in working with eating disorders. Back to Top My treatment philosophy
might be
best described as Collaborative. Each and every person and
situation
is different. I work to understand the unique qualities, concerns,
strengths,
resources, and capabilities of each and every person I work with.
Together,
we discuss your goals and needs. We discuss approaches and develop
plans.
We find and utilize strengths and resources to work through and work
out
difficult situations, problems, and concerns. We become a team.
What
is your Educational and Professional Background?Back to Top I have a PhD in Counseling
Psychology. I have worked in community mental health, medical,
university, and private practice settings. I am on the faculty of
the Houston Galveston Institute, an internationally known training
center in Marriage & Family Therapy. I am the Program
Director of the Master of Science program in Psychology at Our Lady of
the Lake University's Houston campus. As a professor I find that
teaching and working with students helps make sure that I stay on the
cutting edge of knowledge in our field.
I currently hold
professional
licenses in Texas as a Psychologist and Marriage & Family Therapist.
Do
you
accept health insurance?I hold memberships in the American Psychological Association, American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy (Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor), along with state and/or local affiliate organizations. Back to Top We can always provide you
with an
insurance-ready receipt you can use to file a claim if you choose to do
so. I am also currently an in-network provider for several area
health insurance networks. These include: Blue Cross/Blue
Shield, ValueOptions, ComPsych, and United Behavioral Health. If
you do choose to utilize health insurance to pay for part of my
services, I encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly
to determine whether I am in-network for your plan.
Do you
work
with other types of problems as well?Back to Top Yes. With over 25
years of
professional experience, I have seen people with a wide variety of
problems, such as Relationship Problems, Depression, and Anxiety.
Are you available for Clinical Supervision? Yes. I am an AAMFT
