PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Houston, Texas.
Concentration: attachment, psychiatric, emotional and behavioral disorders impacting children and families. I was the recipient of the Mark P. Magaziner Memorial Endowment Research Award: Self-Regulation in Pediatric Bipolarity. A Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment Approach.
Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Texas Southern University, graduated Summa Cum Laude. Concentration: individual and family mental health, attachment and adoption.
Associate in Arts from Barton County Community College, Ks. Concentration: psychology, human growth and development.
My experiences include child, adolescent, adult, family and group psychotherapy; creation and implementation of intensive outpatient interventions addressing the individual and families suffering from the impact of psychiatric, attachment, behavioral and emotional disorders; advocacy work regarding children in need of care, attachment and behavioral issues; workshop presentation regarding attachment and behavioral disorders; anger management; adolescent dual diagnosis; and the emotional aspects of chronic illness. Additionally, I am a co-founder, advocate and workshop presenter for C.E.D.A.R. (Children with Emotional Disorder Area Resource).
Recently Published in the Journal of Brief Therapy: Wynn, C.J. & Cheung, M. (2002). Self-regulation in pediatric bipolarity: A cognitive-behavioral treatment approach with a mother-child dyad. Journal of Brief Therapy 1(2), 141.
CLINICAL FOCUS: Psychiatric, emotional and behavioral disorders impacting "children" from the ages of five to fifty. In all interventions, the impact of these disorders upon individual, family and social interaction are addressed in a developmental context.
Utilizing a rational emotive, cognitive behavioral focus, one focusing
on the development of adaptive coping mechanisms, I often collaborate with
fellow therapists in order to provide a team approach to treatment. Treatment
efforts are time limited, outcome oriented, and specifically geared to
each unique individual.
INTERESTS
As a single mother of adult children I find my life quite fun and fulfilling.
I am an avid movie enthusiast, country western and swing dancer (well,
I try J !), mountain hiker, love to work
out, garden, and most enjoyably visit with friends and colleagues.
TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: I view the therapeutic relationship as
a collaboration with the client on a journey towards self-enhancement,
wellness and goal attainment. My theoretical basis takes into consideration
the developmental stage of not only the individual but the family as well.
In an effort to help parents in particular, we explore the emotional demands
of individuation, parenting and the development of necessary skills.
